POSITION PURPOSE Perform the functions of an entry-level electrical engineer by providing engineering solutions to problems in order to minimize costs and maximize profits. The work requires application of standard techniques and procedures applied to a specific work segment. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in building one-line substation displays for Grid Operations. Conduct assignments as assigned requiring evaluation and application of engineering principles, theories, and concepts. Perform engineering work of a semi-complex nature with supervision. Assist other engineers to provide management with cost-effective and technically accurate alternative solutions to problems. Assist other engineers to investigate and clearly define problems. Assist in ensuring that assigned projects and assignments are completed on time and within budget. As assigned, act as consultant to other departments of the Company and to customers. Analyze and perform semi-complex technical studies; assist other engineers to prepare reports. Gain a high level of engineering proficiency within the field of specialization. Gain technical knowledge of all current techniques, applicable codes, and regulations. Attend professional and specific training as requested. Provide project evaluation based on economics/current business philosophy. Assist engineers by performing data analysis, writing reports and reviewing drawings. COMMUNICATIONS Company personnel - To gather or provide information. Customers and their representatives - To exchange technical information. Other utilities’ personnel - To gather information. CHALLENGES Analyze causes of operational/maintenance problems. Evaluate semi-complex but routine problems, e.g., fairly well defined problems with limited number of variables of known relationship and magnitude. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Basic knowledge of fundamental engineering/economic principles and concepts. Candidate must be working toward a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Preference will be given to qualified third year students. Effective oral and written communication skills. Good human relations skills. Basic understanding of the utility business. Basic knowledge of all applicable policies, rules, regulations, and codes in a specific engineering field. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. PHYSICAL/MENTAL ABILITIES and PROCESSESS Recommend procedural changes. Interpret design and routine operating policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
