Specialist III, Small Generation Systems (R18-332)The Specialist, Small Generation Systems advises Specialized Program Management staff and leads contract maintenance providers on detailed maintenance issues and requirements for the department’s fleet of diesel generators, solar photovoltaic inverter systems, biogas digesters and generators and other small generation systems. In this role, you’ll review & analyze computer data from these systems and anticipate maintenance issues, problems or identify needed upgrades. Your goal will be to provide planned maintenance, so there is no unexpected down-time of units. In addition, you’ll support the Dispatchable Standby Generation (DSG) project managers by analyzing and reporting power quality information through multiple data point sources. You’ll also provide support our customers for their generation systems which may include telephone support or traveling to the site at any hour of the day to resolve any generation problems. You will support our journey by: Frequently analyzing generator systems, inverter systems and power quality system performance and regular monitoring using GenOnSys distributed resources monitoring and control system and ION Enterprise power quality monitoring system. Responding to system alarms on PGE’s GenOnSys distributed resources monitoring and control system and notifying customers of potential issues. Performing detailed analyses of generator Preventative Maintenance Reports from maintenance providers. Providing comprehensive recommendations to address emergency, corrective, and preventive maintenance related issues. Providing comprehensive analysis and reporting of system disturbances that affect the reliability and power quality of the Emergency/Standby Generator Systems. Maintaining and enhancing the comprehensive knowledge of the mechanical and electrical operation, software, firmware, repair, and troubleshooting of Emergency and Standby Generator Systems, inverter systems, and other small generation systems. Manufacturers may include: Caterpillar, Cummins/Onan, Kohler, Katolight, Waukesha, Woodward, Bassler, Encorp, PV Power, Statcon, Sunny Boy, Xantrex. Maintaining and enhancing the comprehensive knowledge of operation, repair, and troubleshooting of DC and AC voltages, single and three phase low and medium voltage switchgear. Performing comprehensive evaluation to identify corrective maintenance of existing client generator systems prior to the execution of the contract. Maintaining awareness of on-going maintenance concerns at client locations. Ensuring prompt response to external clients concerns and needs. Monitoring, analyzing and reporting client location activity findings to the team. Providing support to project managers in the development of methods and procedures. Promoting teamwork and communications among the different client organizations. Being on call 24/7 to address all project and system issues and customer questions during off hours (on call duties will be shared with other department personnel). You will bring the following skills to our team: Typically, BS in engineering or equivalent knowledge plus a minimum of 5 years hands on experience in field maintenance. Troubleshooting and diagnosing Emergency/Standby Generator Systems, inverter systems and other small generation systems. A qualified candidate will have worked on numerous generator systems providing repair services and experience replacing worn or broken parts. Experience working with equipment manufacturers and suppliers, including, but not limited to: Caterpillar, Cummins/Onan, Kohler, Katolight, Waukesha, Woodward, Bassler, Encorp, PV Power, Satcon, Sunny Boy, and Xantrex. Thorough knowledge of operation, repair and troubleshooting Emergency/Standby Generator systems including but not limited to: Engines; Diesel, Gasoline and Gaseous Generators; DC, AC Synchronous and Induction Generator/ Engine Controllers Speed Control Governors Voltage Regulators Paralleling Controls Thorough knowledge of operation, repair and troubleshooting of DC and AC voltage, single and three phase low and medium voltage switchgear including: Breakers and operating controls Power Safety and Protection Relays Excellent computer skills with proficiency in the following: Maximo Invensys ION Enterprise Suite MS Office Suite Working knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and JCAHO (Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) relating to generators and standby/emergency systems. Proficient in graphical analysis and displaying complex issues utilizing clear graphics. Proficient in preventative maintenance service report analysis. Proficient in reading, understanding and interpreting wiring and schematic diagrams. Proficient knowledge in the use of service, parts, reference and cross reference manuals. Working knowledge in the operation of electrical generators and ability to troubleshoot stator, field exciter, PMG, rotating diodes, voltage regulator, start-stop and safety functions. The ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of clients, both technical and non-technical. Ability to acquire new skills as required for various projects.
